How one round of Callbreak works
Callbreak is essentially a trick-taking card game where a full 52-card deck is dealt equally among four players — 13 cards each. The game is normally played over five deals, meaning cards are distributed five times, with 13 tricks played in each deal.
At the start of each deal, every player looks at their cards and declares how many tricks they expect to win in that deal — this is called a "bid" or "call". The minimum bid is 1. Play then starts from the left of the dealer with the first trick. In each trick all four players play one card, and the player who plays the highest card wins the trick.
In Callbreak, spades are always the trump suit. If a player has no card of the led suit, they may play any card — but playing a spade makes it a trump and it can beat any card of the led suit. If multiple spades are played in one trick, the highest spade wins.
Scores are counted at the end of each deal. Winning exactly as many tricks as bid, or more, earns points equal to the bid. Winning fewer tricks than bid deducts points equal to the bid. After five deals, the player with the highest total points wins.
An easy way to understand card values and rankings
Card values in Callbreak follow standard playing card order — Ace is highest, then King, Queen, Jack, and down from 10 to 2. Note that suits carry no difference in rank, so the Ace of hearts outranks the 2 of spades, but since spades are always trump, even the lowest spade beats any card of another suit in a trick.
The table below makes the ranking clearer:
| Rank | Card | Value as trump |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Ace of Spades ♠A | Highest trump |
| 2 | King of Spades ♠K | Second highest |
| 3 | Queen, Jack of Spades | Third and fourth |
| 4 | ♠10 to ♠2 | Decreasing in order |
| 5 | Ace of another suit | Not a trump, but highest in its suit |
One notable scoring point — winning more tricks than your bid earns no extra points, but you are not penalised either. These extra tricks are sometimes called "overs".
Spades are always trump
Unlike other games where the trump changes, spades remain the trump suit from start to finish.
What happens if you miss your bid?
Winning fewer tricks than your bid deducts points equal to the full bid. Bidding carefully is therefore the key to success.
Overtricks
Winning extra tricks earns no bonus points, but there is no penalty either — so bidding conservatively and winning more is a valid strategy.
You play against other players, not the dealer
Many casino card games — such as Blackjack or Baccarat — pit you against the house. Callbreak is completely different: your opponents are three real people, not a house dealer. That is what makes it a genuine test of skill.
When you play Callbreak at tk99 you sit at the same table as real players — someone may be holding more spades than you, while another might be playing safe with a low bid. Reading your opponents' hands is what makes the game enjoyable.
One advantage of online Callbreak is that the game log and scoreboard are always visible, so you can check each player's points at any time. This helps you adjust your strategy. For players looking for table games alongside card games, tk99 Casino offers a range of options.
What new players should know before sitting at their first table
Callbreak is easy to learn but takes time to master. Keeping a few basics in mind will give you good results from the start:
-
Count your spades before bidding: The number of spades in your hand is a solid starting bid. High cards in other suits (Ace, King) can also be added to your bid.
-
Do not overbid: In the beginning, bid slightly low. Avoiding a penalty is more important than chasing points.
-
Save your trumps: The sooner you exhaust your spades, the weaker you become in later tricks. Keep at least one trump for tricks near the end.
-
Remember opponents' bids: If someone bids 5, they likely have a strong hand — plan your strategy accordingly.
-
Play small cards first: If you have low cards in the led suit, play them early — that leaves you with high cards to win tricks later.
-
Track the score: Knowing how many points you need in the final deal helps you decide whether to bid aggressively or defensively.

High-rollerMobile-First Callbreak
An interface designed specifically for phone screens — playable one-handed, with cards played by tapping. Ideal for playing on the go or during a break.
MobileTable etiquette and session management
When playing Callbreak online, following a few unwritten rules matters for a good experience — both for yourself and other players.
Taking too long slows down the game for everyone. If you do not act in time, the timer will automatically play a card for you, which may cause you to miss your bid.
Suddenly disconnecting or leaving the table ruins the experience for the other three players. Make sure your internet connection is stable before sitting down.
Decide on a limit for each session before you start. When you reach that limit, take a break. For more advice on playing responsibly, read the Responsible Gaming page.
Whether you win or lose, speak politely to other players in the chat box. This keeps the gaming environment healthy.
Losing several deals in a row can affect your judgement. Making decisions in that state usually leads to further losses. A short break helps you think clearly again.
